Catholic Mission Adventure – June 7 – 12

Honk your horn, wave your hands or stop and say hello – because we may be coming soon to a community near you!

Members of the combined youth group of the Catholic Parishes of St. Bernard in Rockport and St. Martin I in Chrisney and New Boston will host their third annual mission trip to benefit our home community of Spencer County.

For the third year in a row, we will be hosting the Catholic Mission Adventure June 7-12 in Spencer County.  The Mission Trip is called Catholic Mission Adventure – or CMA for short.  This year we have 31 teenagers who will be coming together for a week of service and spiritual renewal.

Throughout the week, we will have different groups stationed throughout the community, including teaming up with Habitat for Humanity to shingle a roof, cutting down a tree and replacing carpeting. Another team will be assisting the Crisis Connection and Prosecutor’s Office to create a kid-friendly interview room and to move office materials. Team 3 will be visiting with the residents of Miller’s Merry Manor Nursing Home for a week full of Bingo, an Ice Cream Social and a Wheel Chair Car Wash. Team 4 will be washing and painting a deck for an elderly lady and other tasks throughout the community. During this week of service, the Youth Group will be donating more than 450 hours to directly benefit the Spencer County Community!

The Catholic Mission Adventure first began when we were performing community service in Toledo, Ohio, and a group of high school students recognized that instead of traveling to another community, we have opportunities here in Spencer County to revitalize our community and build relationships with businesses and residents.  The idea for this project was initiated by the youth, and they continue to take an active role in much of the planning for this upcoming service week.

Thanks to generous contributions from our Spencer County parish families, local businesses, and other generous Spencer County individuals, we have been able to attend three other missions – in Mishawaka, Ind., Henryville, Ind., and Toledo, Ohio; and we have hosted three Catholic Mission Adventures in Spencer County.

Other activities of our youth group include Angel Tree shopping for families in need each year, attending the Pilgrimage for Life in Washington D.C., to advocate for unborn children and all human life; and in 2013 we joined more than 23,000 other teenagers at the National Catholic Youth Conference at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

As we make the final preparations for our 2015 mission week, we are asking for your constant prayers and continued support. The parishes and community have been very generous in their gifts of support and encouragement.  Because of all of the support we have received, our Catholic Mission Adventure is possible.
